Dog is my spirit animal and specialty, but I PAINT ALL ANIMALS with equal love. If you have always wanted to immortalize your babies, I would be honored to oblige with an original oil painting on birch panel. Dogs, cats, horses, donkeys, birds, elephants! - you name it. I can ship nation-wide (contiguous USA), so if you have a gift in mind, not a problem. If you live local to me (either Sonoma or western Marin county, CA), I will deliver it personally (with cookies).

I will work from photographs that are well-lit (not flash if possible - go for that lovely sideways late afternoon light or any natural light), sharp, and taken in such a way that really displays your pet’s true spirit. I ask, please, to be sent several reference choices emailed to me in the highest resolution you have. I do a reference proof and send it for your approval before I start the painting. Once started, I don’t generally make major changes, so you gotta love the proof!

My standard and favorite is 12 x 12 square birch panel, but I will paint any size for locals. If the paintings are to be shipped, I like to stay with the 12 x 12 or 16 x 16 sizes.

PRICING: I will give you a custom quote that will depend on the size and complexity of your portrait, but a baseline for one animal in a painting (multiple subjects are more) is:

12 x 12 oil on birch panel $425 before shipping
16 x 16 oil on birch panel $550 before shipping

I cannot accept credit cards right now (I will soon), but I will accept bank checks if you are not local, personal checks with phone number if you are. We can work all that out when we talk. Once I receive your reference photos and you approve the proof, I will send you an order form and one half of the cost will be due as a deposit.

Depending on how much I have going on, I usually need about 2 weeks to complete and ship a painting at the sizes listed above. Maybe longer, maybe less, but I will let you know. If this is to be a gift, please allow 3+ weeks to cover the back and forth with photos, proof and deposit mail time, etc.

Note: I am not a camera. : ) I have a free, juicy, painterly style that is still very representational, but I don’t add more detail than is necessary to capture the spirit of the animal. The final painting will be very close to the proof I send to you.

By the time I’m done, I will love your pet as much as you do.
